Viewing Infertility as a Reproductive Justice Issue

SisterSong defines Reproductive Justice as “the human right to maintain personal bodily autonomy, have children, not have children, and parent the children we have in safe and sustainable communities” (n.p). Reproductive justice efforts have done much to support education and access to reproductive health including contraceptives, consent, and abortion access. Infertility, however, is frequently not included in these campaigns. We draw on participants stories, their artwork, and the legislative actions to illustrate the difficulty most patients face in accessing fertility care and alternative-family building services. We invite students organizations, departments, and campus leaders to learn more about infertility as a reproductive justice issue by collaborating with us for a campus event.
